Taking money out of our Credit Card without our consent

This is theft.

We received two fines going down a bus lane in Sheffield last year. They have dropped the fines because we are Australians.

But Green motion have now taken out of our account over $400 Australian Dollars in admin fees for the two fines.

Admin fees for doing online work??

The fees should have totalled approximately $160 ( outrageous) but the extra money???

My husband got a bland response from the Customer Services people.

Where is the courtesy in contacting people before you access their account.

So much for security with access to your credit card. They are a disgrace and to get in contact with them is impossible

sorry considers using this company please DON'T. The motto of Green Motion should be:

OK now seriously their business is not renting cars but selling very expensive car insurances or if do not buy their insurance they will sell you very expensive car repairs i.e. for even a smallest scratch you can loose your 1200 EURO !!! deposit.

So it works like that:

You find them on the net and their rates are quite good comparing with others so you pay a deposit - Hook #1

Then, 1 week before you pick up the car you pay the rest (automatically if you do not say NOOO!!!)

Then you go to pick up the car and they...

surprise surprise - show you the price list they will charge you for the damaged car and ... the jaw drops since for say 3mm small scratch you pay between 200 and 500 euro !! subject where the scratch is and what car you rent.

The price list is in fine print and 2 page long.

You will not find this list on line, no no - this list is their little secret.

Now HOOK #2 you want to thank them very much and go elsewhere but .. you are loosing all your money you paid for the entire rent period.

So what to do? Buy their insurance that is equal to your rent (whole period) in may case my rent was 350 euro for 2 weeks rent and insurance .... 280 euro. So, i did not take insurance.

Few hour after i dropped my car at the airport sitting on my plane back home i got the email: " We found two scratches 3mm long on your roof and we charge you 750 euro - BANG!! and in the same time you see all your 1200 euro deposit taken from your credit card.

Luckily and I really say i was lucky i took photos of this place on the car when is was taking the car (the exact spot) and the scratch was already there.

After few months of threatening them etc they returned my deposit. SO WAS IT WORTH IT???

DEFINITELY NO

STAY AWAY FROM THEM !!! i use car renting companies a lot in various countries but i have not seen this type of tactic before and THE DEFECT PRICE LIST is a Master Stroke.

Got scammed

As I was collecting my car, the staff told me that I would be able to receive the refund for all my bus tickets to and fro Heathrow Airport using HotelHoppa bus service. The refund would be done via email and would cover two ways.

However, when I tried to do so after the return of my car, I was disappointed to find out that their policy was to refund two tickets (two-way) out of the six tickets my family and I took. They emailed me saying they can do a refund of half my tickets as a gesture of goodwill. However, this is different from what was communicated to me by the staff of Green Motion, as well as the booking confirmation email in the fine prints. When I raised this to Green Motion, they ignored this part although I had screenshotted the email and even highlighted the fine prints.

This is an obvious discrepancy and they refused to acknowledge it.

Additionally, when I returned the car, there was another issue. Upon receiving the car, the damage report showed that there were scratches at the front and rear of the car. However, the report did not indicate which side the scratches were. When we returned the car, they forcibly insisted to claim our excess for the scratches, claiming that it was on a different side of the car.

When asked where the ‘initial scratch’ the staff was referring to, he could not find it and insisted it was on the other side. We were in a rush to get to the airport and they just said that we could go without any conclusion to the matter. My credit card was charged the next day. I feel it is unethical for the staff of Green Motion to charge my card as we did not have an agreement before he charged my card, and he could not find the initial scratch that he said was supposedly there.

The scratch shown to us on the pictures he sent to me later on via email are the ones I saw when I picked up the car on the first day, although I do not have any photos as proof.

We had no damages while using the vehicle and was careful to take good care of it.

This Company is scam!! DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM EVER!

Horrific experience.

I booked because they were the cheapest, not realising it would cost me more in the long run.

After arriving to the office to collect the car, it was an hour wait before I got to the front so they can conduct their sales pitch.

Other customers who turned up late due to delayed flights were told their car had been given away.

I was told i’d be getting a brand new car so there was no damage on it. When it arrived it was covered in mud. After reading other reviews I had to wipe away the mud to see if there was any damage hidden under the dirt.

I returned the car at 6am but there was no one there to return the car to. The office was open and they said to wait. After 20 mins of waiting and a flight to catch I put my keys in the postbox.

The car was in immaculate condition when I returned it so I didn’t think I would have any issues. After renting cars for 10+ years I have never been charged once.

When I returned to Australia I noticed $1200 taken from my account. I emailed them asking for an explanation. This email was ignored as was 3 other emails. I called them up and spoke to a lady who said there had been scratches on the tire. I asked her to send me proof as well as an invoice from their garage of where they replaced the tire. I received some pictures of a scuffed tire. When I asked if they could show me that tire on the actual car they said no. It could have been any tire. After 5 weeks i’m Still waiting for an invoice from their garage to show them fixing the tire.

Absolutely disgusting company. Zero ethics. I’ve never written a bad review in my life but felt compelled to.

Highway robbery with dodgy cars

High pressure upgrade from a used cheap economy model to a diesel Merc 180 with low profile tyres and apparently no damage. After being forced to pay by credit card 1200 GBP as per their contract for one minute ding on a door which I didn't do, two scratched alloy wheel hubs, and two paint scraps under the front bumper bar unseen to human inspection...two months later no damage statement of costs, or restitution of any unspent !200 GBP...definitely not all that costly.

The Mercedes had two tyres that wouldn't inflate properly and phoning their road help number just rang out. So much for their 24 hour assistance!

I am considering buying a return ticket from Australia to return to Hounslow Green Motion to aggressively challenge these lazy and suspect hirers. Never again.

Here is my story. NEVER NEVER HIRE with this mob of racketeers.

READ THE REVIEWS. I hired from Heathrow airport, needed to take a 5 pound shuttle to their office at The Holiday Inn that took forever. I arrived 30 min late because my plane was delayed, I was told first i would have a late charge levied, i reluctantly agreed to this, then was told my car had gone because i was late (this was between 9.30pm & 10pm when they close!) so i now had to pay for an upgrade which was more than the total i had paid for my car originally. If not they would treat it as a cancellation & i would lose all my money.

I reluctantly agreed as it was now after 11pm & they said they would just go home & i would be stranded (55 year old woman at night in dark streets) I took photos of the dash board for petrol level purposes but next day found they had put my milage at 702 miles less on the paper work so if i hadn't noticed i would have been charged for each mile.There were also lots of deep scratches, dents & marks all over the car & wheels that i photographed & sent in to them. The worst conditioned car i have ever hired. Later that week i wanted to deliver the car to another destination to be told they are franchises & i couldn't do that except to Gatwick so i had to change my flight, their terms & conditions state 18.60 euros for drop off a another destination but they charged me 60pounds. I reluctantly agreed.

Then at drop off after i had taken photos again, my expert damage investigator found an invisible dent below the door handle & charged me 390pounds from my deposit. I was furious, but he said i could charge it to my insurance. I wanted to see it again & the car was being washed & my expert damage investigator got a special mirror with lines on it to try to show me the damage, i still couldn't see it but he maintained it was there, the paint fleck he said was damaged paint actually disappeared with a thumb nail scrape so was not paint damage, but a stuck dirt particle. I even asked another employee if he could see it, he said no but Mattie is the expert.

I had to catch a plane & i feel that i was a soft target as i was a lone female living in Australia & catching a plane very soon. I have sent in a complaint asking for their photos of the damage, they have sent them to me but I still con't see anything & i'm now waiting for them to show me where the damage is.

We have complained to our credit card company who can put a stop on the payment if you are quick enough to cancel your card & we have read the newspaper articles from the Guardian & The Sun who seem to be on their case & shining the spotlight on them with some success. They need to be stopped & the rental search engines need to be at the forefront of this as Green Motion appear in all the first searches for car rentals in UK.

We saw four people return their cars, three of who including us got charged 390 pounds for tiny faint scratches on the underside of the front bumper. Each of the three "scratches" were 0.5cm much less than their 1.5cm minimum and 13cm apart yet they claimed they were one scratch!!

It took three (3!) months for their customer "care" team to reply. They did NOT even address my complaint under contract law that they had illegally charged in line with their contract with states a "single scratch above 1.5cm will be charged" of which there were ZERO on the car.

I would like to see the receipt from the body repair shop for these scratches as they told us they will send it for repair.

However, they have hired out the car again without repairing it, and will do so many times in the future (illegally charging each renter £390 for every tiny scratch not even in line with their contract) until someone really brangs it and they are forced to repair it.

They are charging everyone illegally outside contract law and treating us all deceitfully and gained money by false pretences.

The should be closed down by Trading Standards and sued by all their customers to recover illegally stolen funds.

BEWARE

I was delayed through customs so tried to ring company to inform them by the time I got through it was past 10pm and they were close. next morning went to pick up car at 6am they informed me they had rented that car out and I had to pay for another rental and could only do an upgrade which was astronomical, the staff were rude and unhelpful,

I was due to return the car but my wife was taken to into casualty, so I extended car hire again they would not answer phones, so emailed they then charged me $100 for 2 days hire, stating there was a daily fee because I had not given them 24 hours notice, which you could not give due to them not answering phone.

on dropping the car off the staff were rude, and numerous other customer were having trouble with them charging them for blemishes in the paintwork, which seems to be a bonus scheme for the staff, to boost there wage.

I have hired cars from may companies and never had this problem before.

DO NOT use this company, they are unethical, and crooks

Rented a car, picked it up in the dark. The guy showed me about the car and pointed out existing damage with a torch.

The dent in question would not have been visible.

When I returned the car the guy found a tiny dent in drivers door which i obviously didn't see when I collected the car. I add insult to injury they charged me for the rental even though I had paid already. When I contacted them about this they told me to contact the booking broker. I have since read many reviews from people who have had similar problems i.e.

being charged for damage which probably already existed. I like many other disgruntled renters live abroad making it very hard to fight this sort of thing.

Worst experience ever. Total scammers

Poor customer service and when returned charged me GBP252 for a scuff on a wheel and a 2mm chip on the windscreen. The windscrren damage was total fabrication and I never did the wheel damage.

This is how they make their money ripping tourists off charging for fake damage. Another couple at the same time as me got charged 100 for a cm scratch they never did. They were an elderly couple who had tge car for 2.5 hours. I wish i researched first.

Internet full of same story. Be warned DO NOT RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE

Worst car rental experience ever!

I have rented cars on numerous occasions, both in Australia and New Zealand with no issues whatsoever. So nothing prepared me for the bunch of out and out shysters operating at Stanstead Greenmotion.

They onsold the car I had paid for because I was delayed. They then charged me $225 extra for a similar car that I had to bring back a day earlier. When I brought back the car, low and behold they discovered a tiny scratch on the car passenger side that needed to a magnifying glass to see. For this scratch which I deny making they wanted to charge me over $500.

After much argument the Manager, who looked had the grace to look slightly embarrassed when he saw the scratch waived the fee. Having said that it is now over 25 days since I returned the car and they still have $1680 of my money sitting in my credit card account pending.

Same thing happened to me in Aug '17 with Green Motion at their Stansted branch too. Took out a cheap car hire deal as I knew I'd only be driving the car for 4 hours and paying any more defeated the object of hiring the car in the first place.

I knew that if I were to crash it, take a stone chip etc, then I'd be liable as I didn't opt for the extended cover insurance - I was confident in my diving ability and I could deal with the consequences if any damage were MY fault. What I cant deal with is being accused of some 'damage' that took the member of staff 3 laps of the car to find - it also needs a magnifying glass to see - which they are now trying to charge me £600+. I too requested a member of office staff to come out and have a look, to which his reply was "what am I looking at?" My point exactly!

This is an absolute joke and a total scam to extort money from an innocent customer. I will fight the charge and will never consider this company again.

On arrival we had to wait an hour to be picked up from airport and then taken to green motion office to process car rental. Took 2 hrs all up just to finally get the car.

Then when returning the car no one was at the office and there were people waiting at the door. Had to wait an hour. The office is on the outskirts of the airport in the middle of nowhere. On pick up and return there was only 1-2 staff so processing so took a long time.

Wish I hired a car from the airport would have saved me a lot of time and angst. I would NEVER hire a car from Green Motion ever again.

Geen Motion Scam

Dear reader,

After reading your article regarding customer complaints with Green Motion I felt compelled to share my experience.

We had to wait in line for 3 hours to pick up the car. The employee handing over the car had a ten second walk around the vehicle and when I asked if there was any damage he pointed out scratches on the nearside wheel rims.

When we returned the car 3 days later the receiving employee went over the car like a forensic investigator and found a 12mm scratch on the farside rear tyre rim and said we were responsible. That would be AU$279 thank you. Complaining to the manager was useless. If in fact we were responsible and we did not hit any kerb It would have to be classed as fair wear and tear.

I would not be surprised if there are incentive payments for employees that can find previously unreported/undocumented damage.

Warning about Green Motion and the Dartford Crossing

Having used the big car hirers in the past, I was lulled by the Green Motion website to 'do my bit' for the environment and support 'the little guy' by hiring a car from them. What a fool I was.

In the past the big car companies, when using the Dartford Crossing, have simply taken the charge of the credit card details left with them. the 2.50 per crossing charge just appears on the next credit card statement. But not, as I found out to my extreme cost, Green Motion. I received an email from them last week stating that they would be charging me 84 pounds admin fees for each of the 4 crossings I made during my 3 week hire.

Not only that, they didn't pay the 10 pound fee and now I am likely to be made to pay 4 lots of penalties to the Dartford Crossing. So be warned - this company appears to take every chance it can to part unsuspecting customers from their money. A request for a little bit of common sense in this matter fell on very deaf ears.

So for innocently not paying ten pounds in toll fees I will be lucky to see change out of 600 pounds. Thanks Green Motion.

I hired a car from Green Motion Manchester airport on Christmas day 2015. I got a free upgrade and the car had only very minor scratches.

There were no issues when I dropped off the car. You just have to remember they are based in the business park not the car hire section and are quite difficult to find.

As Green Motion is a franchise based business all the bad reviews for them were related to the previous franchise owner and all the previous staff have now left according to another forum.

Green Motion - Car Rental Review from Clifton Hill, Victoria County

Hired a car Green Motion car for 15 days from Heathrow over Xmas to visit relatives in UK. Driving down M40 suddenly lost all power.

Managed to limp back to where we staying and contacted Green Motion on 24/12/14. Sent 3 different AA operatives who all stated could not fix. They offered a small car (not suitable for 5 adults plus luggage) but would only have for 3 days as this was there deal with Green Motion. After much calling of Green Motion and no assistance we were without transport for 3 days and then rented from another company to complete our travel.

We have been back home since January 2015 and despite several emails and promises of "it will be in your account this week" we are still to receive any refund.

Wish we had read this page before we booked. 153 complaints and 0 resolution says it all!!!

Charged for traffic infringement the day after we checked back the car

This is possible the worst car hire company in the world and should be avoided at all costs. We arrived early in the morning at Heathrow and when we picked up the car it was filthy and had no petrol.

They took our credit card number and confirmed several times this was just a "Hold" and the money would not be taken, but then took 500 pounds from our account the same day. There was another customer arrived from USA in the booth with us when we were checking in and despite booking the car online, they would not let him take the car as they did not take american express. When we returned the car, we were told to take it 'around the back"but there was no-one there. we drove back to the front office to tell the girl and she wouldn't even look up as I spoke to her.

The rudeness and lack of care at the picking up and dropping off was breath taking.

We are now back home and today received a fine plus 70 admin costs from Green Motion for a traffic infringement after we had handed back the car!!!

Do not even think of using this car hire company. I have never gone online to review a service but for this company I had to make an exception.
